The Brownsea Adventure!

After an interesting morning of investigating the history of Swanage, we took 2 ferries to reach the secret island of Brownsea. The children were delighted to see the wildlife freely roaming in their natural habitats. We can now all spot the difference between the male and female peacocks. We were all mesmorised by the antics of the cute red squirrels.

After a delicious lunch under dripping foliage, we divided into 3 rival pirate groups named 'The Black Eyed Peas', 'The Mouldy Beards' and 'Captain Spud and his crew'!
Our challenge was to decipher the secret code to discover the hidden treasure....the challenge was on!
We all succeeded in our quest. Our reward was stickers and posters which will adorn our Swanage Diaries when we return to school.
Despite the dampness of the day, spirits were high and the teachers were impressed with the children's map reading and orientation skills.

On our return to Shell Bay, children played on the beach and enjoyed competing to see who could dig the biggest hole, as in our class story book.
After supper and packing, some opted for the beach (again!) whilst others were content to catch up on their notes! Another day full of fun and games!

Class 5P Swanage School Journey

5P are having a really good time on Brownsea Island . It was raining a little but it is now beginning to clear up. However a little bit of rain is not damping their spirits in the least bit, (they have just been shouting 'hello' down the telephone to us in the office). The children are now off on the Treasure trail and the sun is coming out just around the corner.

Proud teachers!

No less than 3 members of the public have commented on the excellent behaviour and great general knowledge of the 5P children today!!

We are all ever so proud of the fact that Chrissie and Pam, our guides at Studland and Corfe Castle, both remarked on the level of interest, quality of answers and general curiosity of the group. The weather stayed dry for our visit to Corfe, where stories of murder, medieval toilets and haunted wells were shared. The children not only listened and answered questions but contributed to the discussion with things they knew from school and home.

Well done 5P!

The ride on the steam train returned us safely to Swanage and to play on the beach before dinner. Following a very successful session of room inspection and fish and chips for supper (cauliflower cheese and chips for Joe and Mr Smith!), we then returned to the beach for a grand sand sculpture competition. The sculptures consisted of a porsche, an ice-cream, a palace, a castle, a bench and a series of volcanoes.

All are now tucked up tightly in bed after sharing Dorset Diamonds and our proudest moments so far.

Wednesday 13th May

5P had a great time at Studland this morning - Chrissie gave them a lot of information about the different habitats they could see. After a coach journey to Corfe Castle village they ate their lunch in a park and are now enjoying some playtime. Next they are going to have a guided tour of Corfe Castle before travelling back to Swanage on a steam train. The weather is cloudy but dry. All are well and happy. There will be a news update direct from the hotel tonight!

News direct from the Tower Lodge Hotel!

Thanks to the wonder of modern technology, we are writing this from the dining room at the Tower Lodge Hotel, 7.15pm, after dinner. Those of us still with some energy after the 7 mile walk, have gone to the beach while others have resorted to games and reading!

We have had a great day today, starting off on Swanage Beach in the sunshine and cool breeze, admiring the white horses. After climbing to the coastal path, we strolled up the hill, taking in the beautiful views and learning interesting facts about our environment. Everybody managed to climb with ease, despite the blustery conditions. Many a 'Dorset Diamond' was won and Alistair managed to equal the record for 'polo sucking' (50 minutes without it breaking)!
We lunched in the meadow and peered (from a safe distance) at Old Harry Rocks and then began our descent to Studland Bay, where children competed in our Scavenger Hunt and enjoyed an ice-lolly. Tasteful items such as mood rings (a popular favourite!) were bought in the National Trust shop and consulted at regular intervals so that children knew what mood they were in!

Goodbye for now, it's room inspection time! Expect more Dorset news tomorrow evening.

Chrissie, from the Studland Environment Centre, had us all fascinated with her extensive knowledge about shells, seaweeds, rocks and other sea-life. 5P were delighted to find out that our return to the Hotel would not be on foot, but by coach which whisked us back to base and pizza and doughnuts!
Everyone is now on the beach at Studland after completing a very successful walk. All the children have enjoyed an ice-lolly and they are now about to do a treasure hunt before being given a talk about wildlife on the beach when they will learn all about the interesting things they have found! The weather is dry but cloudy and the breeze is making the sea really exciting! Everyone is well, safe and happy.

5P Swanage Journey Tuesday 12th May

Everybody slept really well - in fact some had to be woken up!
The Swanage postman/woman has been busy with deliveries this morning to the hotel! (Ms Hambrook even got a parcel!). The children enjoyed their letters and cards.
Its a lovely day, the weather is bracing but sunny.
Everybody is setting out on their long walk this morning and is in very good spirits. All looking forward to the day ahead.
